She’s already raised more than a few eyebrows with what she wears, but now Lady Gaga might be raising them with what she isn’t wearing (and we’re not talking about her refusal to wear pants).
That’s because she’s been asked to bare it all for an upcoming PETA ad campaign, following in the footsteps of celebs like Eva Mendes, Christy Turlington and Pamela Anderson who have declared they’d “Rather Go Naked Than Wear Fur.”
According to a spokesperson for PETA, the animal-rights organization approached Gaga about posing for the iconic campaign after she appeared in a rather unique Kermit the Frog outfit last month in Germany. It was a look so out there that it made waves on gossip sites and drove radio host Ryan Seacrest to ask the pop star just she was hoping to accomplish with the getup.
“I really loved [it],” Gaga responded. “Because I thought it was [a] commentary on not wearing fur. I hate fur, and I don’t wear fur.”
That answer inspired PETA chief Dan Mathews to pitch the idea to Gaga, and according to a spokesperson, they hope to shoot her covering herself up with just a few playing cards, a nod to her hit “Poker Face” (which, incidentally, earned Gaga four of her nine nominations at the 2009 MTV Video Music Awards).
PETA’s spokesperson told MTV News that they are still waiting to hear back from Gaga about posing for the campaign. At press time, a spokesperson for the singer had not responded to MTV News’ request for comment.

Lady Gaga not only got to hold the headlines so far for her music but also thanks to her outrageous outfits and the almost unbelievably unique combinations of items, futuristic headwear and thigh-high boots. Because of this, she was always held as a pioneer of a new trend, a deadly combination of old elements with unlikely pieces. The trouble is now that she did not come up with it, Irish singer Roisin Murphy says, as quoted by the Daily Express.
Murphy is telling the British media that Lady Gaga, as shocking and original as she might seem as regards her fashion choices, is nothing but a cheap imitator. The Irish singer met the “Poker Face” hitmaker a little more than a year ago, before Gaga was even as famous as she is today, and it’s very likely that she found a bit too much inspiration from Murphy’s outlandish outfits, the Irish star believes.
“She’s copied my style. I met her about a year ago before she got really big and I had no clue that this was all going to happen. She wasn’t wearing shoulder pads at the time, and I was. Lady Gaga is just a poor imitation of me. She has copied my style, she took my shoulder pads and all that. Mind you she doesn’t wear the bottom half!” the former Moloko frontman says for the British media. In all fairness, several publications point out, the resemblance between Murphy and Gaga’s style is more than striking.
Speaking of style, earlier this year, Lady Gaga was speaking out on one of the biggest misconceptions about her, namely that she was simply putting up an act to cause a stir and, this way, get more media attention and make more money. She dressed the way she did because only that was totally in tune with her personality, the singer was saying at the time, which also meant that, when she took the clothes off and removed the makeup, she was still Gaga and not somebody else because what fans got to see on stage was the real deal and not make-believe.
“The biggest misconception about me is I’m a character or a persona. That when the lights and cameras turn off, I turn into a pumpkin. It’s simply not true. I make music and art and design all day long. Yes, I wash my face and go to sleep but when I wake up, I am always Lady Gaga.” Gaga was saying at the time. As of now, she has not yet responded to Murphy’s allegations of “stealing” her style.
At a show in South Korea, the 23-year-old pop star talks about her record-breaking nine MTV VMA nominations and her upcoming tour with Kanye West. (Aug. 10)

That’s what her manager’s asserting after an up-skirt photo of the pop star sparked rumors that she’s a hermaphrodite. The photo, taken from video shot at England’s Glastonbury festival, reveals a bulge between Gaga’s legs — a bulge that could have been caused by undergarments, a bad angle, or, as some blogs would have you believe, a penis.
Bossip.com alleged that Gaga said this when asked about the subject: “It’s not something that I’m ashamed of, just isn’t something that I go around telling everyone. Yes. I have both male and female genitalia, but I consider myself a female. It’s just a little bit of a penis and really doesn’t interfere much with my life. The reason I haven’t talked about it is that it’s not a big deal to me. Like come on. It’s not like we all go around talking about our v***. I think this is a great opportunity to make other multiple gendered people feel more comfortable with their bodies. I’m sexy, I’m hot. I have both a **** and a p*****. Big f******g deal.”
ABCNews.com asked Gaga’s manager if the “Poker Face” singer is a hermaphrodite and if she said the above quote. His reply:
“This is completely ridiculous.”
Gaga’s sexuality has been the subject of intense speculation ever since she told Rolling Stone magazine that she considers herself bisexual, though her attraction to women is purely physical.
“I think I’m changing what people think is sexy,” she told the magazine in May.
